Casa das Barcas is a listed 17th century manor house in the main street (water front) of S.Roque do Pico, at a walking distance of the harbour (where regular boats to other islands of the archipel can be taken) and 15 km away from the airport.
It has an easy access to the sea (30m away) for fishing, swimming and diving in deep crystal clear water, from a pier where sail boats used to run ashore and where now guests can sit to read, have a drink or just relax and watch sea birds, surrounded by the sea, with the Island of S.Jorge in the horizon.
With polished mahogany and brass furniture and flower pattern fabrics, the lounge (with fireplace, honesty bar and free wi fi) and the 4 rooms (with private bathroom) have a splendid view to the sea and offer the traditional ambiance of an english country home.
A buffet with local products (different kinds of corn bread and cheese, jam and fruits) is served for breakfast in the former dinning room or under the pergola opening to the garden, with hydrangea, rosemary, agapants, sterlizia and banana trees. Guests have also access to a terrace by the lounge (for smokers) and an upper terrace with deck chairs and a panoramic view to the mountain and the sea.
Not far from the house there are restaurants, banks, pharmacy, post office, health center and a tourism office, where information is available about trails that can be taken in the neighbourhood, to walk along the coast (in a World Heritage vineyards area), or in the foothills of the mountain - that can be climbed from a start point 20 km away. At the same distance (in Madalena or in Lajes) there are boats available for whale watching
